Application-specific engineering review

OTHERS / CUSTOM
HEAT SHRINK TUBING Nylon, other project-specific materials and custom constructions

Use this pathway when a published PET or PE size is not the preferred starting point, a program specifies another material, or the assembly needs a custom construction. Polymerex reviews the complete application before confirming material, dimensions, wall construction, sample availability or production supply.

Start with the application, then screen the material

These material paths identify review options. They do not represent a standard stocked range or universal performance claim.

A

Nylon

Nylon may be reviewed for application-specific protection, bundling, strain-relief or transition requirements. See the Nylon sub-capability page for the detailed review path.

B

Other Requested Materials

Other materials may be considered only after Polymerex reviews the requested resin and grade, construction, dimensions, recovery behavior, manufacturability and supply path. No availability or production capability is implied until confirmed in writing for the quoted program.

C

PET or PE fallback

If a published PET or PE path meets the need, Polymerex may recommend it before initiating custom development.

Availability boundary: A material named on this page is a candidate for review. Availability is established only when Polymerex confirms the formulation, construction, dimensions, quantity, lead time and acceptance requirements in customer-specific documentation.

Thin-wall and double-wall requests require a shared definition

Custom thin-wall or double-wall constructions may be considered when the assembly requires limited added profile, a specific layer arrangement or another application-driven objective. Before quoting, Polymerex and the customer must align on what single-wall and double-wall mean for the requested construction.

1

Wall definition

Define nominal wall, tolerance, measurement condition and whether each stated value applies to one layer or the complete construction.

2

Size and repeatability

Confirm which expanded and recovered dimensions can be manufactured consistently for the proposed material and construction.

3

Layer function

Describe the purpose of each layer and the required interfaces, separation behavior, retention or removal strategy.

4

Documented release

Final dimensions, tolerances, inspection methods and supply scope belong in the approved quotation, drawing or development agreement.

Move from requirement to a controlled feasibility decision

1

Define the objective

State what the sleeve must accomplish and whether it remains on the device or is removed after processing.

2

Submit geometry and materials

Provide loading-feature and target-zone dimensions, tolerances, drawings, substrates and the requested material rationale.

3

Screen manufacturability

Review material sourcing, construction, achievable dimensions, process interaction, trial scope and acceptance criteria.

4

Evaluate representative parts

Use an agreed sample or development build to establish evidence before any production release decision.

Small sample quantities may be possible after review

Polymerex may supply a small evaluation quantity from suitable existing material or produce a limited trial quantity when practical. This is not a standard-stock, minimum-quantity or lead-time commitment.

Sample confirmation: Material identity, construction, dimensions, quantity, documentation, lead time and intended evaluation use are confirmed for each request. If no suitable material is available, Polymerex will advise whether a trial build is feasible.

Common custom capability questions

Can Polymerex review materials other than PET, PE or Nylon?

Requests for other materials are evaluated case by case. Polymerex does not claim standard availability or manufacturing capability until the material, construction, dimensions, process feasibility and supply path are confirmed in writing for the quoted program.

Does ?custom? mean any material or size can be supplied?

No. Each request is screened for material sourcing, tooling, dimensional capability, repeatability, quantity, process interaction and the required quality documentation.

Can Polymerex make thin-wall or double-wall custom sizes?

Such constructions may be reviewed, but this page does not publish a numeric wall or size claim. Wall definition, nominal value, tolerances, layer structure and available sizes must be confirmed for the specific program.

Can a custom sleeve remain on the finished medical device?

This page does not establish retained-use suitability. The finished assembly must be evaluated for intended use, interfaces, biocompatibility, sterilization, aging and applicable regulatory requirements.

Inputs required for a custom capability review

  • Requested material and the reason it is specified
  • Application and required sleeve function
  • Largest loading feature with tolerance
  • Target-zone minimum, nominal and maximum OD
  • Requested wall or layer construction definition
  • Required tubing and finished coverage length
  • Complete substrate materials and layer stack
  • Heat source and anticipated process conditions
  • Whether the sleeve remains or is removed
  • Sample quantity and annual volume estimate
  • Inspection, cleanliness and packaging requirements
  • Biocompatibility, sterilization and documentation needs

Engineering and regulatory note

Capability review is not a material or performance guarantee.

Final suitability depends on the confirmed formulation, construction, finished dimensions, device geometry, substrate materials, heating method, intended use and customer validation.

Material identity, tolerances, quality documentation, biocompatibility, sterilization compatibility, cleanliness, shelf-life and production availability apply only when specifically confirmed for the customer program.
